The initiative is part of the HFS commitment to helping develop skills and experience of young people in the Inverclyde area. The training all took place at the HFS depot at Springkell Street.

With all four pupils having expressed a keen interest in joinery, the fifth-year students worked across a range of projects including kitchens and bathrooms, combining skills and knowledge with hands-on-work.

Staff at Home Fix Scotland were so impressed by the students that they had a collection for them at the end of their training as a way of saying thanks for all their help.

Jordan Robertson, a pupil from Inverclyde Academy said: “I’m so excited to be here. When I finish school I’d like to be a joiner and hopefully the skills that I’ve learnt this week will help me when I apply for an apprenticeship.”

John Williams, Senior Contracts Manager at Home Fix Scotland said: “We were delighted to have the pupils come and work with us. We hope this experience will provide them with the practical skills and knowledge which will help them secure a job or further training opportunities in the future.”
